I started to do the "first sentence of each month" meme, but my first post this January was the 2007 version of this, so I decided this would be more interesting. At least for me, and hopefully for other people, too. ^^; And hey, it's almost like new content.
If last year's fandom was FF12, this year's was ... Baccano/Persona 3.
As before, I'm only counting full-length fic - for drabbles, see my drabble tag.
January Burn. Baccano!, Rachel/Nice. Explicit. ...This is one of those that I wrote in a burst after having an idea while trying to sleep, that I find better than it has any right to be.
( February through December! )
...Well, that was informative! Compared to last year, I wrote a lot less, but mostly only because of... writing nothing for half of the year. And when I did write, it seems like it was stuff I liked better. P-probably because this year, when I failed at challenges, I failed entirely and spectacularly, instead of writing a few hundred words of mediocre nothing. >_>

I JUST HAD A REVELATION YOU GUYS.
Er. You see, there's this old ficbit of mine, one of the ones from the last week of ironman7, when my brain was fried dry and I have no idea where I managed to produce any words from.
I was rereading it and, as I have before, going "ergh, the tense change in this thing could really use to be a lot cleaner, or maybe not there at all - "
And then I went "WAIT. That's what was going on there?" And made a sort of squealing noise.
...And by "there" I meant canon. I did in fact know what was going on in the fic, but for some reason I hadn't taken the inference that one step further. oh god. The broken and awesome.
</cryptic>
EDIT: Also, while I'm being entirely narcissistic, I think my favorite Death Note thing I've written is To Lie Flawlessly, which surprises me since it was for the first round of springkink and I felt like everything I managed then was mediocre. But rereading it I like it a lot. ^^ God they are both so fucked up~

I wrote a lot of fic this past year, compared to what I've done previously. Probably more this year than all time previous to this year combined. But still little enough that I can feasibly do this meme, so I shall!
I will consider it an accomplishment if in 2008 I do even more, so a similar review is too intimidating to complete. ^^
I am not including drabbles; for those, see my drabble tag. Also, most of these before August were originally posted on LJ, but I'm linking to the versions over here.
January First Impressions. FF12, Fran and Balthier. ~600 words. Worksafe. My first attempt at FF12 fic - Fran and Balthier's first meeting. I like it okay, for feeling things out, though I began regretting the "prefer men" line a few weeks after I posted.
To Feel Human Again. FF12, Basch/Balthier. ~2k words. Not worksafe. (Was it that long ago that I wrote this?) An early-game Basch/Balthier bit, inspired by the scene that made me really love Balthier. Also the only scene that really struck me as Basch/Balthier-ish at the time.
( February through December! )
...Man, that took significantly longer than I planned. I have written more fic than I thought! And a substantial amount of it was smut! This mostly makes me happy. :D

So I was going back through a fic-in-progress I haven't really worked on in months. (I haven't been in the right mindset to do it justice, but just now I was like "I should write! Y'know, I think I could actually write some X!" It was awesome!)
And, y'see, apparently at the most recent Viable Paradise SF/F writing workshop, one of the key insights was that whenever you want to talk about a gun or something without doing extensive research, just call it "modified." That can let you get away with lots.
...Apparently even before knowing that, I wrote into this fic a "modified Atomos." ♥, self. I am so amused.

...Whew!
Alright, okay, that was a lot of work. And some of the things I produced I'm still pretty dubious about. But! I also produced some things that I am quite happy with. And since a lot (most?) of the time I spent on Ironman was time I otherwise would have spent not writing, I think I came out ahead, even in the material sense.
( Writing process musing... )
Basically, hopefully after this challenge I will be better at producing ideas I'm excited about, and thus producing more fic that I am excited about!
( Fun stats... )
And now I have time to do whatever I want. OMG. Probably most of this will be spent playing Persona 3. Definitely some of it will be spent on "Opening Gambits" and other things I've had in progress for forever, because a side effect of Ironman is that I've been really wanting to work on them. ♥
