Because I feel like I haven't been interacting on IJ much at all lately, and because it seems like there haven't been fun antics in a while, and further because it's a lot easier to ration my internet-poking at work when I have something specific to poke at during downtimes instead of looking for something new to occupy my attention every five seconds:

Let's have a round of the fuck/marry/cliff game!

Basic rules of the game, if you're unfamiliar: You pick three characters. Any fandom I'm remotely familiar with is good. I then have to choose one of them to fuck, one to marry, and one to throw off a cliff.

To make this equally fun on both sides, I will also say that after I've finished explaining my choices, I'll give a set of three back to you. You can then do the same, and we go on like that until one of us gets bored or distracted by something else!

Only one other stipulation: No one is allowed to put Gustavo Baggetta in any of my sets again. >_>

Because it's the in thing, and I feel like I have hardly posted here at all since I got into camp (...possibly because I have been failing at writing anything orz) - my [info]kinkfest claims!

Only three for now - there are a bunch more on my list, and a couple that I would particularly love to do, but I do not have faith in my ability to complete them so I am holding off claiming any others for now. ^^;

November 1 - Bleach - Ulquiorra/Grimmjow - pulling rank - the raw edge of his Hollow hole
November 16 - Persona 3 - Mitsuru/Akihiko - heat of the moment - losing control after battle
November 30 - Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - Viral/Yoko - non-romantic sex - you can't always pick the dog you find / maybe I wasn't what you had in mind

It's a good spread, I think! And look at how reasonable those dates are! I am excited! :3 And hoping to actually complete all of my claims for once. ^^;

Haha, I bet you guys thought I'd completely forgotten about these! ...or possibly you guys just forgot about these yourselves. orz

After the few I did in comments, and then the break for CFUD, I'd been sort of pathologically avoiding them, which is... never a good sign for quality drabbles. But then suddenly yesterday I wanted to do them again, so I did all the rest last night and today! Don't look at me, guys. I don't even know. Maybe I should try and magically finish everything else on my list before I snap out of it.

Four of these were posted already, in comments. The other eight are new.

...Some of them stretch the 'living together' part a bit, but there's only so many ways to make that interesting in itself.

for [info]laylah, but mostly for myself: Viral and Rossiu

So, uh, you guys may have noticed that I requested housewarming drabbles, did a few of them, and then mostly fell of the face of the internet for a while?

That is because on Tuesday night I went "...crap. The CFUD app window opens Friday, and I don't even have a first draft of my app done yet. aaarghh!" So guess where the rest of the week went!

BUT it all ended in success!
--> throwawrench@LJ <--
I now play Graham in CFUD! ^____^

...uh this post was supposed to give people confidence that I would get to the drabbles soon now but I am not sure the prospect of me spending spare time in CFUD is actually confidence building. But I do promise I really will soon, after I get all Graham's stuff set up. ^^;

I am now officially moved in with [info]laylah and [info]mahokiwi! I continue to expect great awesomeness.

For now I am still getting settled - it was kind of weird being in the house after everyone had left this morning before work. (I get up somewhat late. >_>) Of course, there were still the four cats, who all gathered as I was getting ready. ^___^

The weirdness only increased when I got to work (maybe slightly earlier than usual, but not terribly) and no one from my team was there yet. o_O I have fallen into some sort of strange schedule gap! (...admittedly this was helped by the fact that my teammate who gets in at 7:30am is on vacation. I will never get in that early.)

Between that and the fact that the internet has done nearly nothing for like... a week (which I have of course contributed to) I think it's time for a game!

Give me two or more characters (crossovers more than okay) and I will give you a sentence from the story drabble where they are living together. For one reason or another. ^_^

Con was awesome. The only big thing I might've changed (if I had the magical power to do so) was to be more awake-feeling during it. ^^; I got home last night around midnight, and slept until 10:30 or so; I'm still kind of sleepy, but better, and I keep remembering things and grinning even more than I did at the time. ^___^ I got to meet in person and hang out with so many awesome people! That's what a con is all about. Convening. ^^ And porn on the internet = totally the best way to make friends

Unfortunately I have exactly one picture on my camera. But most of the time I was with other people more successful at photography, so when pictures become available I will be sure to point people there. ^^

In other news, though!

Today was scheduled recovery day, for obvious reasons. After getting up and lazing about a bit, I had to head over to my parents' to pick up my cats. My parents have cats of their own, but mine were staying isolated in one room. We did, however, do an experiment while I was there, bringing in the nicest of my parents' cats (Star, my old cat) in to say hi to Fran and Balthier.

...Star was pretty upset about this, sort of huddling by the door and hissing whenever she looked over at the others, but Fran and Balthier just sort of laid there calmly and watched. So at least my cats will probably take their new friends fairly well, when I move this weekend. ^^;

I also ended up having to stay around for dinner, and this meant I hung around and watched my dad play Lost Odyssey. Which was... entertaining. You see, my dad has never played an RPG before (the closest to an RPG was Mass Effect, and he didn't finish it). So he kept saying things like "there are so many cut scenes" "what, I have to micromanage equipment" "there's this complicated system with the elements of the monsters" "what, it's game over if my whole party dies?" "why do I have to run around the whole environment and see if anything gives me a 'press A' prompt?" To which I kept replying "That is pretty standard for RPGs." And occasionally "And nicer than some." And I helped him finish the first boss battle. ^^;

The game itself looks pretty interesting, though, from the hour or so I watched. And the graphics are amazingly fancy. I will probably check it out myself eventually, although DDS is my first priority at this point.

Speaking of which! I'm probably going to start DDS this evening, and as usual, I'll probably be playing it without a guide. I'm pretty sure I'm spoiled for a bunch of stuff already - or at least will be when I start getting enough context for everything I've heard over the past two years to snap into place - but I'm trying to avoid being spoiled any more.

HOWEVER I seem to remember there are some particularly important dialogue choices I should know about?

Finished up Graham's wrench today. (Whut, I totally have a day to spare, even! >_>) Am immensely happy with it, now.

[info]mahokiwi, I kind of hate that you play Ladd in camp. Hate in the... good way?

You see, I got home from dinner and I still had a Firefox tab open to Ladd's thread with Harry, so I went back and read the one with Jinana too. And also the last couple of threads from July. And also your post on how Ladd relates to other people.

And it was all pretty hilarious and/or awesome!

My problem, you see, is that I can't read things without wanting to play. So now I'm really really wanting to play. -_-; More so than I have been hearing people talk about it, even. And I am pretty sure I don't have the time for that!

...Someone convince me of this, please.

In the meantime I suppose I will take my laptop to bed and attempt to write fic until my brain shuts up a bit. >_>;

...okay, probably not by a long shot, but it's definitely hit a good chunk of my flist by now. I wanted to do it days ago, but today I actually have spare time to interact with the internet. (Vacation woo!)

Anyway. Most recently from [info]redbird, I think, if we're tracing the stack?

Pick a fandom of mine and I'll tell you my....

One True Pairing Ship:
Canon Ship:
"If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" Ship:
"You are one sick bastard" Ship:
"I dabble a little" Ship:
"It's like a car crash" Ship:
"Tickles my fancy but not sold just yet" Ship:
"Makes no canon sense but why the Hell not" Ship:
"Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" Ship:
"When all is said and done" Ship:

This will be interesting. I am not sure how often I have anything like an OTP. ^^

There's a lot of things I'm really happy with in here. I've been wanting to get these finished so I could post them all for weeks now. Sorry it took me so long. ^^

Like last time, these are in order from the prompt post rather than sorted by fandom, since most of them are crossovers. All worksafe!

Avatar.
I watched the last segment of the series yesterday (the Southern Raiders, Ember Island Players, and Sozin's Comet 1-4).

...It went pretty much like I was expecting it to? I did enjoy it! Some parts made me smile happily (hugs for everyone!) and others... not so much (I'm not even really involved, but I know what the fandom didn't need, and that's more incitement to pairing wars).

Overall, I rate it "good." Much like the series as a whole. Compelling in its way, but also occasionally annoyingly trite. There was also much lampshade-hanging, which I minded some times more than others.

...I still really don't want to interact with the fandom at large, though. -_-

Brief collection of more spoilery observations )

Sheer brilliance, self. You go through all the trouble of polling the flist, and then what's the next thing you post? Something you know for a fact no one will be able to read, at least for a while, and which may be outside the interests of some even then. orz

...Honestly, I am still a bit o_O at this fic myself. But my brain truly refused to work on anything else today. So here you go.

On the bright side, I got to post something shiny and new to the shiny new asylum [info]megidolaon! ^^;

Feelings Aside.
Persona 3, Yukari/Mitsuru, ~1000 words. Not worksafe. Spoilers through the endgame of The Answer, and also probably won't make much sense without the canon context. ^^;

Persona 3 FES: The Answer - COMPLETED.

♥ ♥ ♥

I. I am now really happy with this extra chapter. ♥

I mean. It was cool, before the endgame! Just. Much more low-key, in the way where you're adventuring for a few hours for a minute or so of backstory which is exciting mostly because you're invested in the characters. (And less so when you're not.) And there's really not a lot of... forward-looking plot, for most of it. A lot of dungeon crawling. Which is fun if you like challenging dungeon crawling! Which I do.

But then... there is the endgame. Which punches you. And then punches you a few more times. And then -

then it concludes amazingly well, in a way that builds off and adds to the original game without retconning anything. And it's great. ♥

And, okay, I found some of the punching a bit implausible / badly rationalized. BUT I AM WILLING TO OVERLOOK THAT BECAUSE YAY.

also Yukari shut up and get out of my head I still don't like you that much

omg.
Just got my ass kicked hard by the final boss of The Answer.

I'd been underleveled and barely making it through the battles leading up to it, and being sort of satisfied with that because they were the sort of battles that shouldn't be easy and I really wanted to see the end. But it turned out the end was farther away than I thought.

...I am really okay with this. I will probably have to go make everyone seven levels or so before I attempt the final boss again. But. Oh man. I wasn't really expecting the end of this game to be nearly as satisfying as the end of the original game, but from what I've seen so far it just might be close. I ♥ Atlus.

Also? Most bizarre moment of the afternoon? Sympathizing with Yukari and going "...the hell, seriously, are you listening to what you're saying?" at Akihiko. Are we sure I didn't slip into an alternate universe?

Futher update perhaps later tonight.

Played only a bit of Persona 3 FES tonight, but I am actually feeling well-equipped, for once! And I'm really pleased with my set of personas - between social links I didn't max and personas entirely new to FES, I've got a lot of really awesome ones I didn't have before.

Current lineup )

In addition, tonight I hit a level in which I managed to take out eight Glorious Hands, so between that and the boss prizes I was, for the first time ever in The Answer, able to optimally upgrade everyone's weapons and armor. \o/

Getting close to the end of this game!

Prompted by chatting with [info]lassarina in this thread, I dug out my oldest fanfic notebook, in which I have some game notes as well as fic. There's a two-page beginning of Cobalt/Onyx in here! Where did that come from!

Specifically, I thought I'd type up what notes I have on Magna Carta stuff, so it can potentially help other people in addition to being better preserved for my future reference. ^^

part only I care about - Raul's style / attack names )

the letter that's with Reith's clothes in the cave at the beginning )

The Eight Heroes (book in Pnosen Library) - potential backstory spoilers )

From this we conclude that the translators for this game a) occasionally phrased things quite awkwardly and b) apparently didn't talk to each other about their name romanizations. >_>

...Also more interesting plotty things, though. ^^

For [info]kinkfest! ...Although the kink ended up being kind of tangential in this one. And there is no porn. But Luck wanted to go a slightly different way with it.

...Also I think I need to break from writing Akihiko for a bit, since I feel like my themes are getting a bit repetitive. >_>
Fortunately my prompts for the rest of the month are Ladd/Graham and Ryuk/Light, so those should be uh. Very different!

This is corporate AU stuff again. :3

Something Physical.
Baccano!/Persona 3, Luck/Akihiko, ~1300 words. Worksafe.
Prompt: Luck/Akihiko - fighting as foreplay - boxing lessons

Census time!

For some reason last night as I was failing at sleep I decided this would be a good thing to do. I've had a good handful of people start watching me over the past couple of months, and so for the first time I am not actually clear on the makeup of my flist.

...I have no idea why I was thinking about this last night, since [info]laylah did her poll like this about four months ago, and even [info]puella_nerdii's was a month ago. I can only theorize that now that I actually have functionality back in my brain again, it is working to catch up on all the input I've gotten in the past couple of months that I didn't quite manage to process properly. >_>

Anyway. I have stolen some chunks of this from [info]laylah's version.

Poll! Which everyone who sees this should take! So I know what you're looking to see in this journal! )

First, over at Making Light (see also feed at [info]makinglight):

Jim Macdonald, who is an EMT, has been doing a series of posts on trauma; more specifically, what can happen to people, what goes wrong with a body, and what you can do to help if you're first on the scene. (First step: call help.)

Part One: The Basics
Part Two: Shock
Part Three: Sticks and Stones (skeletal injuries)
Part Four: The Squishy Bits (soft tissue injuries)

It's all really interesting stuff, if not for the squeamish (particularly Part Four, which I read today. it was kind of interesting to see which parts got a squick reaction out of me - traumatic amputation, I was pretty okay; avulsed eyeball, not so much.) I still really hope I'm never in a situation where I'm the most knowledgeable person to offer first aid, but at least I know more than I did before. And although my writing is generally lacking in gruesome injuries, as I was reading I could feel myself filing away bits of information for future reference anyway. So check it out.

In (hopefully) less gory news, from Neil Gaiman's blog ([info]official_gaiman):

Neil Gaiman will be doing a reading/signing tour for The Graveyard Book in October! Dates and cities in this post - he'll be in Seattle on October 3. More information to come, no doubt.

I saw him in Berkeley in... 2005, I guess it must have been? There is apparently a video of him in Berkeley in 2006, which is not the one I was at, although he mentions at the beginning that the last time he was signing in the area he didn't finish until 2am. Sounds likely, as I wasn't anywhere near the end of the line, and it was late enough after I got my books signed that most of the restaurants around were closed. ^^; But he's really cool to hear talk, so check it out if you can.
